DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake reimagines the first two DRAGON QUEST games with the beautiful HD-2D visual style featured in titles like OCTOPATH TRAVELER series, TRIANGLE STRATEGY, LIVE A LIVE and, of course, DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of the legendary Erdrick, the Lord of the Underworld was defeated and peace returned to the land of Alefgard. Yet this peace was not to last, as the diabolical Dragonlord rose up and unleashed horde upon horde of monsters on the realm once more.
Now it falls to you, Erdrick’s descendant, to lay the fiend low and rescue the world from its plight!
Why is this releasing after DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake?
If you’re not familiar with DRAGON QUEST, you may be wondering – why are Square Enix releasing DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake after last year’s DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake?
That’s because these three games are narratively connected and together form the ‘Erdrick Trilogy’. DRAGON QUEST III is chronologically the first game, set many years before DRAGON QUEST I, so it makes sense for it to come out first.
That said, each game tells its own largely standalone story, so you can start with any of them and get a complete tale with a beginning, middle and end.
How do you get DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake?
DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake launches October 30, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows.
The game is available to preorder now – and doing so gives you a TROUBLE-FREE TRAVEL KIT, containing the following in-game items:

All bonus in-game items can be collected by opening the treasure chest at the inn in Tantegel for DRAGON QUEST I, or the treasure chest at the inn in Midenhall for DRAGON QUEST II. All the items can also be collected by playing through the games.
